Calculating the cost of electricity for a machine involves considering the time the machine is turned on and off, as well as the cost rate during those hours. The formula for calculating the electricity cost is multiplying the power consumption (125 kW) by the number of hours the machine runs in each period, and then by the cost rate during those hours. The final cost is the sum of the costs for each period.

Two different rates are used depending on whether the machine is used before or after 12:00 (midday). The rate is $0.75 per kW from 00:00 to 12:00 and $1.2 per kW from 12:00 to 24:00. By following this method, you can accurately determine the electricity cost for running a machine.
